Domaine Chappaz

Description

It was the vineyards of Les Esserts in Charrat, given to her by her father for her 17th birthday, that inspired Marie-Thérèse Chappaz to become a winemaker.

After training in oenology and viticulture at the Changins school, she took over the family vineyards in 1987 and settled in the house of her great uncle Maurice Troillet, member and president of the Valais State Council, at Liaudisaz, Fully. 1988 was the year of the vinification of her first vintage with, above all, the desire to produce great wines representative of their terroirs.

To achieve this, she chose to care for and love her land, and to respect each grape variety. Her philosophy is growing: not too much intervention and less and less input. In the vineyard, no synthetic products or fertilisers; only herbal teas, home-made compost, plants and biodynamic preparations. His discovery of biodynamics dates back to 1997 and his estate has been certified Demeter and Bio Suisse since 2003.

Gault and Millau named Marie Thérèse Chappaz "Winemaker of the Year" in 1996. In 2016, she was awarded the title of "Icon of Swiss Wine" in recognition of her commitment to the quality and reputation of the wines produced in the region. This title follows the Lalique-Villa d'Este "Lady of Wine" award of excellence received in 2015. In 2021, the Valais brand was awarded to 12 of the estate's wines.
