Wild charm at Montagne Alternative

On Saturday morning, your driver meets you at 11:05 am at the train station in Sembrancher to take you to the magical hamlet of Commeire with a breathtaking view over Mont Vélan, the Grand-Saint-Bernard and the Mont-Blanc massif.

There, far from the crowds, a unique experience in connection with nature awaits you, with the discovery of wild plants and their traditional uses. The surrounding area is full of plants used by our ancestors to feed and heal themselves. You are to learn how to recognize them and use them according to popular traditions during a course supervised by Guillaume from “Nature in Conscience”, an ethnobotanist and cook.

During a walk to discover medicinal and edible plants, you learn about their habitat, their intimacy, their distinctions and their evolution. You pick some of them in order to prepare your wild and gourmet meal at the end of the day. Before getting back to Montagne Alternative for the culinary workshop, you share a gourmet picnic, in the wild, with a breathtaking view on the surrounding peaks.

The day continues with the elaboration of your meal to be eaten then. You combine the plants collected with creative recipes, in search of simplicity, based on seasonal products, always favoring vegetable preparations. You prepare dishes such as spreads, herbal cakes, roulades, ... that shall satisfy the followers of natural cooking as well as the epicureans.

Herbal drinks accompany your meals, which you can enjoy on the terrace, facing a breathtaking panorama.

Montagne Alternative offers you elegant and respectful lodge accommodation in one of its chalets combining comfort and authenticity.

Sunday morning is devoted to the use of medicinal plants. In a private chalet, you take part in a workshop to make a balm with mountain plants. Each step of the process and the traditional properties and indications of the preparation are explained to you. You use high-quality organic products.

At the end of the workshop, your driver takes you to Orsières, where you enjoy lunch at the Laiterie Nouvelle, and then to Sembrancher, from where you will return home. You leave the St-Bernard county with a selection of regional products that will remind you of the charms of the region for a long time to come.   

This experience activates all our senses: touch, name, observe, taste, listen, walk. It is also an opportunity to share time in a strikingly authentic setting, conducive to disconnection and inspiration.
