Region Dents du Midi

Seven steep Alpine peaks make up the Dents du Midi, facing the green Val d'Illiez and its rich pastures. Six villages dot this territory, which is steeped in a cheese-making tradition that is still very much alive. Straddling the border between France (Haute-Savoie) and Switzerland, the Portes du Soleil offers a vast area for relaxation throughout the seasons, where you can enjoy delightful hikes and magnificent cycling or skiing routes.

A heritage recipe of the region, the Salée du Val d'Illiez is a leavened pastry covered with a filling - the sablé - made of butter, flour and cinnamon, to which apples, pears, rhubarb or white wine are commonly added. Despite its name, it is a sweet cake. This Ark of Taste product is served at breakfast by all Slow Food Travel hosts.
